Great day out with Ann Macey and Nichola Thomas Officers of Gwent FHS
who manned the sales and Help desk today, Saturday 18th January 2003, at
Cyfarthfa Castle, Merthyr Tydfil.
'Look up your Genes' which is an ongoing event (See BBC Wales). The main
attraction was Welsh Broadcaster Roy Noble from Radio Wales ( available
on Internet of course) who opened the event at 10am. There were a good
amount of speakers throughout the day.
Brenda found some useful information for the public on PC and fiche
readers that Ann and Nicola had brought along. I found some 1901
information on PC's provided by the 'BEEB' for quite a few families. Ann
and Nichola were kept busy on the Sales desk. We picked up some
prospective members and many promised to visit our various research
evenings (6, Gwent Branches)
Glamorgan FHS were there, especially Merthyr Branch of who I am a
member. Missed meeting the Powys secretary who I am told was there
earlier.
Ben Fieldhouse's third book (And they worked us to Death) was sold out
before 11am! They were taking orders for the book for immediate delivery
from this Monday! Slimmer volume than the last, but at 2 GB pounds still
good value.
Spent a lot of time talking to lots of familiar faces while trying to
evade the BBC interviewer;)) Alan Beale our Gwent Projects officer was
there and we spent almost an hour talking. He can talk for Gwent!!
(Monmouthshire) Sorted out the answer to lots of problems;)
A great day.
all the best
