Most of my family came from Glos/ Wilts area but I am interested in 2
branches in particular with links in this area:
1) My grandfather's notebooks written between 1890 and 1930 have
addresses for a Mr E HULBERT at St Woollos Newport. I believe he is my
grandfather's cousin Edwin born 1847 in Hawkesbury, a village with strong
links to Monmouthshire thanks to the Duke of Beaufort who owned large
areas of both counties! I have never been able to prove this link and my
guess may be wrong as I have a possible alternative for Edwin working on a
farm then taking up farming at Awre in the Forest of Dean. However - it
must be some kind of relative in Newport and I am intrigued by the mystery -
I hope someone might help! (By the way - I can't tell when that address was
effective - My grandfather had his own idiosyncratic ways of keeping records
and chronological time was not part of his organisational strategy!!!! )
2) The sister of Edwin was called Emily and she went to Bristol
where she married a policeman John PHILLIPS who came from Redwick
Monmouthshire. That is all I know but if you can help I'd like to hear from
you
Marilyn
Resesarching the surname of Woosley and all variants, originally from
Carmarthen but have had mention of them in Monmouthshire/Gwent.
