Dear Joyce,
Gaen street is in the Blaenau Gwent part of Abertillery on a modern map.
I am not sure if it is the same street that you mention on earlier
census.
I would say it is the same one though as I have just found Blaenau Gwent
Baptist Church on my Purchase of graves and Gaen Street is shown as
Blaenau Gwent in early 1900's.
The area is not my expertise, I was a linesman and Clerk of Works in
Abertillery telephone exchange between 1965 and 1998 and I know it
pretty well as regards the area and Gaen street runs in 'series' with
Crown street. I can Email you a map as attachment if you wish, just to
make sure that it is in the right area.
What families lived there? It may be worthwhile subscribing to the
Blaenau Gwent Rootsweb list as there are many people who know the area
and history better than myself.
I can take a picture for you if you want. It is only about 12 miles from
where I live. There is however no guarantee that they are the original
houses.
I have tried to get in contact with Frank Olding the Blaenau Gwent
heritage officer, he is a Cwmtillery lad. I will keep trying.
best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent

Hello List
Some of my ancestors lived in Cwmtillery in the early nineteen hundreds -
in Nos 2, 14 and 16 Gaen/Gaer Street.
Can someone tell me if this street still exists, and/or the houses on it.
If the above houses are in existence, I would be thrilled to receive a photo
of them, though that is probably asking too much!
Thanks for any information
