Sheila,
I`ve had my Winifred Jayne down on a Census as Jayne Winifred. She was
widowed by this time and all her children were given the surname Winifred
too instead of Jayne. Another researcher told me to look for reversal as I
couldn`t find her under Jayne and there she was with her name
backwards. The trouble might arise when the surname can also be used as a
Christian name so someone, census enumerator or transciber gets muddled.
I have a Jane Harry b Kidwelly,Carms,at least that`s what she says on the
1851 Census. She is visiting the Farr family (my great-grandparents John
and Mary Farr in Georgetown Lower Merthyr Tydfil;)and she is 65 years of
age.I know nothing else about her so would love to be able to tie her into
a fanily somewhere.Maybe yours?
Sorry I can`t be more help, hope you get lucky.
regards,Jill in Sussex.
Is anyone researching the HARRY family from the Bassaleg area?
Thomas Morgan HARRY married Mary REES 1833. I believe they were non
conformists which is why I'm experiencing difficulty tracing them.
Several of their children were baptised at the Bethel Baptist Church,
Bassaleg.
My problem lies with the fact that in some census records their surname is
MORGAN. Therefore I'm not sure if I'm tracing MORGAN's or HARRY'S!
There are several baptisms for children of a Thomas Harry (from Bassaleg)
at Mill St Congregational Church, Newport and one father is listed as
Thomas Morgan HARRY.
This family is one of my brick walls so any help would be greatly
appreciated!
Many thanks
Sheila Alderson
