Hello Sheila
I have one TOVEY - Samuel Loseby TOVEY (born ca 1823 Spitalfields, father
John) who married Florence Ada STOCKWOOD of Cowbridge, 23 April 1885 in
Cowbridge. This was his 3rd marriage.
He was first married to Eunice Ann PRICE 28th Feb 1849 Bethnal Green. They
had one daughter, Elizabeth 1848 Shoreditch. Eunice died in 1854 at Market
Drayton
Second marriage was to Caroline (Hollingsworth) WALKER, a widow with 3
children one of whom, Frederick., married Florence's sister Jane Maria in
Bridgend in 1871. Caroline died at Eton in 1884
Florence & Samuel had one child, Dorothy born 1889 at Uxbridge. Florence
died in 1892.
In 1901, Samuel is in Uxbridge - in the same household are Dorothy Tovey,
now 5, Emily Eliza STOCKWOOD, sister to Florence & Jane Maria age 45, and a
niece called Gertrude WALKER, daughter of Jane Maria STOCKWOOD & Frederick
WALKER.
The family name TOVEY, depending upon where you look, has been transcribed
variously as TOREY & JOREY - this last may help with your search.

Hi Paul
I do belong to the Glamorgan list but thought I'd try this one first! I've
now found a marriage for Job Tovey and Martha Davies in Panteg plus the
birth of Mary's brother Samuel in 1814. However, they must have relocated
as cannot find Mary's baptism or any of the other siblings yet.

Hi Sheila,
For Eli, you may have to find a Glamorgan list because he has Glamorgan and
Monmouthshire both as places of birth and I could not find him on Mike's
Trevethin records. I think Mary is there but not with the parents you have.
You should join one or both of the other groups, it appears only you & I
belong
to this group.

Many thanks Paul. Yes, they are my family. They are one of my brick walls!
Job HOWELL is my direct descendent. He walked out on his family circa 1890
leaving no trace - wonder if he emigrated.
His mother, Mary TOVEY died (I think) between 1871 and 1881. Eli HOWELL
remarried an Elizabeth - possibly WATKINS.
I'm now trying to prove who their parents were - another brick wall!

Hi Sheila,
I did a search on ancestry and found this family in the 1861 Census. Is it
yours?
Name: EliHowell
Age: 42
Estimated birth year: abt 1819
Spouse's name: Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Trevethin, Monmouthshire, Wales
Civil Parish or Township: Machen Upper
County/Island: Monmouthshire
Country: Wales
Registration district: Newport
Sub-registration district: Mynyddyslwyn
Household Members:
Name Age
Eli Howell 42
Mary Howell 40
Ann Howell 17
Evan Howell 14
Jobe Howell 12
Martha J Howell 10
Eli Howell 8
Elen Howell 6
Mary Howell 3
I just took a quick look at Mike John's website and could not find the
baptisms
or marriage, but I was not thourogh; baptisms often took place in the
mother
or
father's home town/parish.
I forgot this group even existed. You may want to consider the Monmouth
Family
History Yahoo Group that you can join from Mike's Website
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~monfamilies/monfh.htm
or the Monmouthshire Rootsweb Group. Both are more active.
