Meg,
I have a cousin who spells her name Esme. That may help as names were not
always spelled correctly on a Census.
Also try Esmay as the surname ,my great-grandmother`s family is down on
one Census with the surname Wineford(Winifred was her christian name.)!
There are lots of slip ups to try.
Good luck,
regards,Jill
Am brand new to this List and am interested in finding out more on 2
FLANAGAN sisters who lived in Rockfield in 1818 and 1819. Do not find
them in the IGI [even searching the Rockfield batch for all FLANAGAN
names].
I have in my possession 2 stitched samplers done by sisters, Margaret
and Esmay FLANAGAN. They are the same size, the overall same
composition but differences in color and verse. Both are dated October
10th. Margaret's is dated 1819, Esmay's a year earlier in 1818. Both
have 'Rockfield' stitched clearly. Am wanting to research the families
further.
The IGI finds no suitable Margaret FLANAGANs, was hoping to also find an
Esmay FLANAGAN and note matching parent's names. Esmay may be a
nickname ? Have tried Elizabeth but there are no matching parents. To
have completed these samplers so well, I'd expect the birthdates of
these 2 sisters to be around 1808-10-ish and they may not have been born
Rockfield.
Just re-ran the IGI search and find no FLANAGANs at all in any part of
Wales around 1810. Suspect familysearch glitch or I need to reboot this
machine. There must be FLANAGANs, I've seen them on earlier searches
and its too common a surname to have none found in the IGI. Marriage
searches have not yet served to ID either sister, there were no records
for anyone named Esmay.
Ideas on finding Esmay and Margaret thankfully entertained...... Meg
