Dear listers
I have a John HARRIS marrying Elizabeth JONES, both of Marshfield, probably
sometime before the birth of their oldest child John who was born about 1839
according to census records. I suspect that the following GRO marriage
entries are possibilities:
John HARRIS - 1837, Q4, Newport, vol 26, page 125
Elizabeth JONES - 1837, Q4, Newport, vol 26, page 126
So, you see my problem. Just one page different. The indexes on the LDS
films and fiches (I checked both) are typed transcriptions so I can't look
at the originals, however it seems to me that it would be easy to make a
transcription error of a 5 for a 6 or vice versa.
First of all - is Newport the right registration district for Marshfield (it
seems to make sense)?
Second - what's the best way to deal with this without overpaying the GRO?
Third - does anyone have access to a copy of the original indexes and if so
could they take a look to see if they can shed light on the situation?
Many thanks
