Bill,
In searching FreeBMD you might want to put a check mark in the "Phonetic
search surnames" option.
I noticed names spelled PURDEL", PURDLE" etc.

Subject: Elizabeth Maria Purdell
Hi List,
Just joined, hoping some kind soul can help me overcome a long-standing
brick wall.
Elizabeth Maria Purdell was my great grandmother, born in 1851 at Risca,
Monmouthshire, according to the return in the 1891 census. On her marriage
certificate in Bristol in 1874 she gave her father as William Purdell, a
collier.
I haven't been able to find Elizabeth's birth registration, nor any
marriage or death registration for William, so any help anyone can give
with this will be most gratefully received.
