Dear Jon,
I have a friend who is administrator on a Barbados? rootsweb list, they
have no interest in the area, but they have free holidays on coconut
airways and a 2 star hotel.
Can you please search the 1891-1901 census for me to find any Robert
Churchill from the Caribbean Islands, good job, possibly barrister or
such?
Best regards
Barrie Jones, Gwent

Hello again
Yes please, this could well be my family. I have good reason to believe that Mary was a servant at this time, as I have a copy of the census with her (I think) in it.
Thank you again, you have been of great help. I will pop into Cwmbran again when I can, as you never know - the witnesses may be of use (as they sometimes are!)
Do you have family from Monmouth?
Diolch eto

Hello
I would imagine that Gwent Record office hold the Mynyddislwyn parish records.
Marriage registrations details prior to 1837 did not normally give parents names .
only the witnesses. the following link has examples
http://www.british-genealogy.com/resources/registers/indexf.htm
There is only one Samuel of the right age group in Mon in1841.
wife Mary and children Eliza16 Watkin 9 Ann 7 Samuel 4(noMarywith them,
but a few 14year olds in service)
They are in Bedwelty Blackwood.
If you think they are yours i can send you a scan of the original.

I have been lurking for a bit and thought it was time to repost my forever brick wall that I have all but given up on. This line is a sad spot in my family history.
I am mostly trying to figure out who Thomas Jenkins and were he was born. I am unable to find him before 1851. He list two different places of birth on the two censuses I have been able to find. I do have his wedding certificate to Mary Jones daughter of Richard and Susanna Jones. Which list his father as Edward Jenkins. He was married in the Sharon Chapel. He died while living on Chapel Street around 1863 in Tredgar. But there was not much info on that. His wife soon married David Williams and that is were the line continues. I do have tidbits here and there.
Here is a copy from a journal entry from one of the cousins about Thomas and his dad and his dads bothers:
“There was a cousin Thomas Evans. He went to Wales on his mission and wrote in his journal: "I stayed at the home of Thomas Jenkins in Wales when I was on my mission there. His father was 107 years old and had 3 brothers all over 100. They were nicknamed Old Die, Young Die and Die-come lately. While there I met David, a son of Thomas. I was very favorably impressed with him. He was smart, a chip off the old block, and could do anything. The word most people used to describe him was "Genius".
David ( the son of Thomas Jenkins) worked for the government telegraph office in his early twenties. He married Elizabeth Hurlow of Saunersfoot in the Bedwellty Parish. They had a daughter Suzanne in Tredegar on Jan 27 1877 and she died on the 29th. So she is there somewhere.
Here are the census I have:
1851 census 19, Chapel Row,Tredegar. Harcourt Terrace
Thomas Jenkins, head, m, 26, miner, Llanidloes, Montgommery, Wales
Mary Jenkins, wife, m, 23, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales
Ann Jenkins, Dau, 3, Tredegar, Mon.
1861 census
Thomas JENKINS (Butcher) age 37 Radnor St. Harmon
Mary (no maiden name given) age 32 Merthyr Tydifil
Ann JENKINS age 12, born at Tredegar, Monmouth
Richard JENKINS age 10, ditto
David JENKINS age 6, ditto
Edward JENKINS age 2, ditto
If any one has info on this family, I would love to here from you.
Jill

Joan,
Family Names: *Evans, Croft, Coslet, Toppin, Nicholson*
I'm looking for information about Edward Evans, a farmer and the
father of Thomas Evans. Thomas Evans married Ann Croft on 19 April 1851
in the Parish Church in the Parish of Bedwellty, County of Monmouth. At
that time, both Thomas and Ann resided in (?) Ebben Vale. Thomas was a
puddler in an iron mill. Edward's wife's maiden name was Hannah Coslet.
Ann's father was John Croft, a forgeman (apparently in an iron
mill), was born 5 January 1804 in the Parish of Clee, Lincolnshire,
England. His wife's maiden name was Frances Toppin, born in 1809 in
Monmouthshire, Wales.
John's father was Haman Croft, born in 1776. His wife's maiden name
was Esther Nicholson. Haman's father was John Croft. Esther's father
was Samuel Nicholson.
I would greatly appreciate any information about any of the above
persons.
Harold
W. Evans
Hi the name I am researching is Henry Harding, his father was John Harding.
the only information I have is that Henry was born about 1845 in
monmouthshire and his father was a farmer. he married Ellen Buckley in 1875 at rochdale
Lancashire and then moved to Bradford Yorkshire and then in 1882 they had
moved to Blackburn Lancashire.
At around 1887 or there about he deserted his wife and two children, I can't
find him after this time. He was a tailor by profession.
Best wishes Joan
