Good Day to Everyone
It has been suggested that perhaps some kind soul on this forum could
possibly be of help in my search for a TREVERTON family, in particular a
Richard TREVERTON, who may have lived in Wales, circa 1870's. Richard
enlisted with the 2nd Batallion, 24th Regiment (South Wales Borderers) at
Monmouth on February 12, 1876. He was killed at the Battle of Ishandhlwana
in South Africa on February 22, 1879. Richard's effects were claimed by his
mother, brother and sisters.
I have been trying to locate Richard & family for two years. The 1861 &
1871 census for Cornwall have a Richard but he would have been 38 at the
time of his enlistment which, from what I understand, would be quite out of
the ordinary. I have exhausted the military archives as most of the
prevalent information was destroyed during or shortly after the battle. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
