Hello Gayle,
Pontygof Congregational is known as Ebenezer Independent Church. It is
still in very good condition. Unfortunately there are no deposits at
County Hall as yet for Ebenezer. New legislation should work to our
advantage, I hope. We have substantial information about the Church at
our Ebbw Vale Branch of Gwent Family History Society and any of our
members, or anyone turning up at our members interest nights can view.
I am currently transcribing Pontygof Boys School registers for our local
Gwent Society ( amongst a long list of other projects!), but that
information is 20c, so unless any of her family were left behind it
would be of no use to you.
Members interest night is second Tuesday in the month for anyone wishing
to attend our meetings. These nights have been full houses this year, so
far.
We can carry out research for members of Gwent Family History Society.
Being a registered charity as most Societies are, we cannot charge
anyone for using the facilities, but try to encourage membership or
donations to finance the purchase/publishing of fiche, books, CD roms.
We are always looking for volunteers to transcribe as well.
best wishes
Brenda Jones, Gwent

I am researching the families of Lewis ( originally form
Carmarthenshire) and
Davies (from Monmouthshire)
Anne Lewis was born at a place called Little Mountain, Parish of Llangathen,
Carmarthenshire, South Wales. Her parents were David and Mary Lewis. The
family moved from Carmarthenshire to Ebbuvale, Monmouthshire when Anne was about
eight years old. She was received a member of Pontygof Congregational Church
when she was fourteen years old, and lived a consistent Christian life while she
lived.
She came to this country (the United States) in1863, and was married to
Thomas W. Davies in Pittsburg, according to prearrangement, the very day she
arrived there from Wales. Mr. Davies was in this country since 1861. They
lived as a family in Brady's Bend, Pittsburg, Kittaning, for a short time, came
to Cleveland in 1864, and moved from there to Newport, Ky. in 1879. where they
spent the remainder of their earthly career.
Anne Lewis was born July 17, 1842
This information came from a newpaper article (obit)
Thomas W. Davies was born May 20, 1840. I only know that he came to the United
States in 1861.
I have information to present on the family but do not know how to get past this
place.
I would like to know how to find the names of brothers and sisters and Thomas's
mother and father. I would also like to know any other information about the
family and the area.
Does this look familiar to anyone?? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you,
Gayle
