I recently posted a query regarding Newport Registry Office stating that a
marriage certificate did not exist (see below). I employed a person in
London to purchase the certificate for me and am pleased (and disappointed)
to advise that the certificate DOES exist.
It is important for those members of this list who are overseas, unfamiliar
with the British systems, and with exchange rates are paying 3 times the
cost of certificates to be aware that it IS possible for certificates to NOT
exist at one registry office but to be found at another. My understanding
of the indexing system was correct. Newport Registry Office was mistaken.
Had I proceeded with purchasing the cert. from Newport I would have lost my
money and, more importantly, missed my ancestors.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the list for it's unselfish
assistance.
Warm regards,
Terry.

I'm looking for the marriage of William Edwards and Miriam Jones. They had
a son Edmund on 6 September 1860 in Abergavenny. William was a retailer of
beer of Blackrock Bedwellty at that time. Based on the date the above looks
like it should definitely be the marriage but the local registry office
can't find it. Instead they find a marriage between them 8 years after the
birth of their son as at what seems to be a more likely location as follows:
Marriages Jun 1868
