Hi
Llanwonno parish covered the Rhondda Fach valley and part of the northern
side of Pontypridd, in Glamorgan. It was a fast-growing mining area in the
1880s and 1890s.
The only industry in which I have come across a 'closer' is tinplate. The
tinplate industry in South Wales was centred further west, around Port
Talbot, Neath, Swansea and Llanelli. However it is possible that it was also
a job title in chain-making, which developed in Pontypridd (but on the South
side) or other industry - probably metal-based. There is a link from
Gareth's help page, probably the best place to learn about South Wales
family history research which leads to old names of occupations. [A 'closer'
might also have been in a shoe factory, but hardly in Glamorgan]

Try also

http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html the Glamorgan lookup page.
I could not find an obvious Walter MORGAN on the 1901 census
http://www.census.pro.gov.uk/welcome.html. To search a name like MORGAN it
helps to use a downloadable spreadsheet from Leeds Indexers, advertised in
GENUKI. The only Ronald MORGAN of roughly the right age I could find was in
Bath.
The MARCH family show up , with mother an older brother Earnest age 19 in
1901 census if you search on born Leigh*.
Looking for Walter MORGAN in 1881 gives lots of possibilities
http://www.familysearch.org/ There was one aged 31 in Rhyndwyclydach,
Glamorgan who was a tinman, and who had given his two eldest children middle
names.
There is a MORGAN society
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~morgansociety/society.html
Walter March and his wife Ellen show up on 1881 census search married but
with no children yet.
I hope this gets you started.

Subject: [Mon] MARCH AND MORGAN 1920's / 1930's
Shw Mae!
I am new to this list and am searching for some further information on the
above
family names. My gt Aunt Muriel Ann MARCH b 1889 in Leigh up on
Mendip Somerset married a Ronald Stuart MORGAN b 1884 in Llanwonna Wales on
14 Apr 1914 in Radstock Somerset. My gt Uncle Harold Walter MARCH b 1891 in
Leigh up on Mendip Somerset married a Mary Melinda Rosina MORGAN b 1891 in
Llanwonna Wales on 2 Aug 1915 in Radstock Somerset. Ronald and Mary's
father was Walter John Oliver MORGAN occupation Closer? Harold and Ronald
were both miners and some other family members have said they went to South
Wales sometime between 1920 and 1930 to work in the coalfields there either
Pontypool or Ponrypridd. Could any one on the list advise me how to proceed
or has anyone got these names in there family tree. Would be most gratful
for any advice.
