Still okay downloading images by using the right click method.
You only need to do this if you are 100% sure if you have the
correct family because you dont see the image till after you
have downloaded and paid for it.
This procedure is the best method if you are sure with the above.
When you reach the census viewer page CLOSE IT DOWN scroll
down to the bottom of the page and underneath this sentence
To download and save a copy of the image to your computer....
is a red link saying Right-Click Here
RIGHT CLICK on the link with your curser arrow and then you will receive
a box full of commands LEFT CLICK on SAFE TARGET AS a download
box will then appear giving you a file name which is ChargeableServlet
and file type which is a TIF FILE. Change the word ChargeableServlet
to a different file name {name of family} because if you dont do this and
you download your second image it will over-ride the first image if you
tell it to and you will loose your first image.
At the top of the download box you have the words SAVE IN and next
to it will be the directory where you will be saving the image. A suggestion
would be to create a folder called 1901 census in MY DOCUMENTS before
going on the 1901 site.
After you have saved the image you can go to the folder where it is and
open it up by double clicking on the file. When it opens it will be in letterbox
format so will have to rotate it left by 90%. If you have PHOTO or PAINT
programm on your computer and you are familiar with it, you should have
crop facilities to cut out the black image around the census page. If you
are not sure if you have done a good job always save has a different file name
so you still have the original image.
PRINTING - I am using 160 gram thin card. It looks excellent on card.
