I thought I would test to see if it could locate people I have found

fiche. I entered the information exactly as recorded in the census (as

the fiche) and it came up with a complete blank. Is anyone else
having
this
problem? Does it work or not?
I searched for Moses Davies, aged 17 +/- 2, in 'Ebbw Vale', and didn't find
him. I dropped the Ebbw Vale and the age, and looked for Moses everywhere.
He turned up, aged 17, in 'E Vale'. The Davies' that showed up in
subsequent 'E Vale' searches, did not turn up in 'Ebbw Vale' searches,
and
vice-versa. Nobody lived in 'Rassau', but some people did live in 'Rassan
Entire'.
Basically, drop the place names wherever possible in your searches. Anyone
looking for 19 year old Mary Price, born in Beaufort Brynmawr, for example,
should also know to search for her being born in 'Porecou Porynmaw'. That
one has been my favourite error so far!
Mind you, one I liked, probably came at the enumeration stage ( I haven't
checked the census image yet, because besides the crashes, I've already
spent a quarter of my weekly income in just over one hour). My ancestor
Thomas Brooks, was apparently born in 'Rowrdean Glos' - maybe in spite of
having been in Sirhowy long enough to be bilingual, the enumerator still
heard his Forest of Dean accent!
As for downloading the images, yes, the test page works fine, and I can look
at the image pages - but if I try to save the page I'm looking at, then the
system crashes - and yes, you do get charged for it.
When you reboot and reconnect, even if your account is still open, the
system realizes that you might have 'forgotten' to log off previously, and
you can resstart the account seesion.
