I have ancestors who converted to the Mormon faith in the
mid-1840's when
the missionaries began working the area. My 3X great grandmother, Ruth Bevan
Ward Bellis was a member of the Tredegar Branch of the Mormon Church from
about 1845 until she came to the U.S. in 1866 and settled in Salt Lake City,
Utah. I would like to hear from others who had ancestors who converted to the
Mormon faith and/or who have local knowledge of the subject.
The acknowledged expert on Welsh Mormon history is Dr. Ronald Dennis who
teaches Welsh and Portuguese at Brigaham Young University. Dr Dennis can be
contacted through the University and in my experience he has always been very
willing to provide assistance. Dr Dennis also has an exceptionally interesting
website which is worth visiting by all who have an interest in Welsh history, even
if they have no Mormon connections
