There is a problem that there are various versions of tif files and I
couldnt open the ones from the 1901 census with anything that came with
windows ME. If you look at the census site and go to the advice part it
tells you of a program you can download for free and works very well. It is
called Irfanview. I advise always to look at the images as I have found
errors on the transcripts and the images show the correct wording very well.
The program I mentioned has very good zoom facilities so you can see great
detail. One of my ancestors was given the wrong christian name and when I
looked at the image closely I could see that it had been written down wrong
and then corrected.

Thank you very much to all who responded except it doesn't work,
most
suggested "TIF(F)" but neither Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop 6 will read it
which they would if it was "TIF" I go into Windows explorer and select one
of the images and it is titled "File" Any other suggestions anyone?
Thanks, Bill
