Hello List,
I am researching the name HUTCHINGS who resided in Chepstow MON in the late 1800's.
I have found John HUTCHINGS b 1871 London, living with his Aunt Jane and Uncle Robert
GRIFFITHS who were Inn keepers.
They were living in 1881, at:
10 & 11 Station Rd, CHEPSTOW, MON
Then I found John HUTCHINGS married to Elizabeth ( probably MORGAN) with one son, called
Norman Rothery HUTCHINGS b 1896 and what appears to be his brother, George HUTCHINGS b
1865, with his family in the 1901 census. Both were Inn keepers in Chepstow, MON. George
was a Licensed Victualler.
There may have been another son called Oswald HUTCHINGS born abt 1902 to john and
Elizabeth HUTCHINGS
Norman Rothery HUTCHINGS went to California in about 1919 and stayed until his death in
1971. He had married a woman called Violet Wilson.
We think Norman and Violet met during WW1 and Violet eloped with him - or vice versa! .
They lived in Alameda, California.
George married an Irish woman called Sarah probably in Kent and had about 5 children -
Beatrice b abt 1886, Emily b 1888, Violet b 1889, Eva b abt 1891 and possibly Edith or
Kathleen after 1901
I would love to find out more about the Hutchings family - if they are still around
Chepstow - and the Inns they may have run.
If anyone has any information related to the above. I would love to hear from you.
Kind regards
Jocelyn,
Sydney Australia
