Is anyone researching SCRIVENS from Newchurch, near Chepstow?
I have in 1881 living at The Glyn Road, East Newchurch
Samuel SCRIVENS widow aged 62 born Howick, Monmouth
Margaret SCRIVENS dau aged 12 born Newchurch east
I'm not researching SCRIVENS but Samuel SCRIVENS and Sarah, of Newchurch,
were the parents of Tabitha, baptised at St. Peter's, Newchurch, on 23rd
October, 1870.
Does anyone know where The Glyn Road is or anyone recognise any of
the
above?
Can't help you with The Glyn Road, but in the same baptismal register, the
parents of Constance Lydia - baptised 10th May, 1868 - were John and Janet
SCRIVENS, and their abode was given as The Glyn.
My (modern) Ordnance Survey map shows "Glyn" at map ref, 479964. Also to be
found in that area are "Lower Glyn Farm", "Glyn Farm" and "Upper
Glyn Farm".
These are all within a two mile radius of the church at Newchurch, in an
east south east direction.
