You can find Mamhilad on Multimap with no problem. The 'Works' shown were in
the 1960s known as 'British Nylon Spinners' but I don't know what they are
now. In some areas the 1:25000 map on Multimap is taken from the OS, and has
names of farms and isolated houses, but in this case the 1:25000 is from a
street map with no farm names, contours etc.
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ - gazetteer- Monmouthshire- Mamhilad produces an
1886 map. When you click for the enlarged map you see Troed-y-Rhiw located
on modern-day Folly Lane.
If you have the 1:50000 OS map of the area, or the map of similar scale from
Multimap, you will see a stream running down the hill in a roughly easterly
direction, which was also a parish boundary. The building just north of
where Folly Lane crosses this stream is Troed-y-Rhiw in the 1886 map, local
grid ref 298029 which I think puts it in the SO grid square.
If you have any difficulty in pulling up this map, let me know. The
performance of
http://www.old-maps.co.uk seems to vary from day to day, and
is sometimes very slow. The size of the enlarged map file is such that it
may not load properly on some older computers.
It is interesting that the old map shows 'traces of paving' on a track going
over the hill from Mamhilad towards Trevethin. I was told in the 1960s that
it was known locally as the 'Roman Road' but suspect that it was much later,
probably from around the time the Monmouthshire & Brecon canal was built
through the area just downhill from the farm. It is a pleasant area for
exploring on foot - or it was in the 1960s when my sister was living nearby.
Hope this helps
Jeff
