I am tracing the forebears of William Rees ALEXANDER (1860-1930)
and
his second wife Sarah HINES (abt 1864-1944), originally from
Monmouthshire but who immigrated to Australia in the 1880's.
William Rees was the first son of Henry ALEXANDER (abt 1834-1883) and
Mary Ann REES (abt 1834-1875) who were married circa 1858 at Monmouth.
Their other children were:
Sarah Ann ALEXANDER (abt 1866- ???)
Henry ALEXANDER (abt 1870-???)
Harriett ALEXANDER (abt 1875-1942) Married
William George PICK
William married Sarah SMITH (abt 1863-1885), who was his first wife,
at Pontypool abt 1881, and shortly thereafter they immigrated to
Australia, arriving on 25 December 1883. Their infant daughter Rosina
died on the voyage. Sarah died in 1885 a few years after their
arrival.
Wanting to establish a family, William married Sarah HAINES (abt
1864-1844) in 1886 at Newcastle. Sarah was most probably in Newport
and she had arrived in Australia as an assisted immigrant in 1884 when
she was 20.
