Hello Listers,
Received a Letter today from the Register office at "8 Goldtops" together
with a money order I had sent for birth certificates for an aunt and uncle;
they state they cannot locate the uncle but possibly have the aunt.
What is confusing is that I've already received a marriage certifcate for my
grandparents, William George SELF and Annie Ord Dallas GIBSON, dated Aug.
29, 1908 at #3 David Street, a birth certificate for my mother, Elsie Maud
SELF, dated Aug. 4, 1913 at #2 David Street and death certificates for both
grandparents in 1914 and 1915 at #2 David Street. I find it strange that
they would not be at the same location in 3rd Qtr. 1909 when my aunt, Annie
Mary, and 2nd Qtr. 1911 when my uncle, William G., were born.
They have suggested, quote- "Due to local authority boundry changes, we have
lost the Mynyddislwyn sub district to the Caerphilly Register office, Ystrad
Mynach, Hengoed, CF82 7SF and the Monmouth Register office, Coed-Glas, Firs
Road, Abergavenny, NP7 5LE. It is possible that your entry may be found at
either of these offices" unquote.
Being unfamiliar with the geography of Newport, I would appreciate some
thoughts and comments prior to responding to this letter. This boundry
change, is it recent?
I would also appreciate an e-mail address for this register office (8
Goldtops) if there is one available. I've just ordered a credit card for
internet use only and wish to enquire if they will accept a credit card in
lieu of money orders. Money orders and bank drafts run into a lot of money.
Thanks very much
Bill, Edmonton, AB Canada
