Gladys a happy new year to you too.
First of all, your search is very recent, well relatively. if you Google
Kellys Directories, you'll find on line trade directories for Monmouthshire
in the 1920s, and these contain all Abergavenny businesses.
Here's one from 1920 itself:
www.archive.org/stream/kellysdirectoryo141920lond#page/n43/mode/2up
I looked quickly but can find no reference to the business you seek, but
maybe the 1925 directory might contain something.
Secondly are you certain that it's in Wales? Abergavenny seems extremely
unlikely to have a street number for a shop or house of 3225? Few UK streets
are more than a mile or two. None in Abergavenny. Could that be a North
American numbering? Could he have been somewhere in 1920s Canada? Im
probably completely wrong but am trying to help.
Is the pavement made of stone? It almost sounds like wood from your wording?
If it's wood then again Id doubt that early C20th Abergavenny would have
'boards' laid as pavement?
Hope I get proved completely wrong!
David

Subject: [MON] Abergavenny tailor shops, abt 1920-1925
Good Morning List & Happy New Year to Everyone!
Perhaps someone can help me with a question about retail shops. I have a
picture of two men standing in front of a tailor establishment in
Abergavenny. I know one of them to be Andrew Farrington b abt 1890.
Only the entrance and one window is shown in the photo and the printing on
the window says:
LADIES AND GENTS TAILORS
J A CALDER A FARRINGTON
I estimate that Andrew is 30-35 yrs old.
The street address above the doorway says: 3225.
I notice the sidewalk in front is made of wide boards.
Can anyone tell me where to look for a listing of establishments about this
time?
I appreciate any help
Gladys in Alberta, Canada
