Hi Listers,
reposting in the hope that someone, one day will be able to add a little piece to my
jigsaw puzzle:-)
Still looking for JAMES of Glandwr (Lanydoor, Llanydwr, Glunydde, Glundwr Dland Y Dwr),
Llanover Upper, pre 1833.
First names often Benjamin & William, they owned & rented land in Llanover, Goytre
& Trevethin. Not sure if either were churchwardens at St Bartholomews Llanover
1750-1850.
I have various wills dating from 1730 - 1830 mentioning Benjamin, William and Enoch but
having trouble making any connection with JAMES of Glandwr or anywhere else.
William JAMES b1793c first married Elizabeth JENKINS who died after the birth of William
b1831 (about), William then married Mary JONES of Goytre (parents of Mary Ann who married
Thomas JENKINS see next post Abergavenny Lunatic Asylum).
William JAMES & both wives are buried at Hanover Chapel, Llanover.
The chapel records are lost, if anyone knows if there are any transcriptions of the chapel
records I'd love to know. I have visited the graveyard and taken notes.
There is a book Celebrating 350 years of Worship at Hanover by J Glyndwr Harris which
covers the chapel's history. It's on the shelf at the Gwent RO but every time I go
there it's not there:-( worse, it's out of print.
William's parents, Benjamin & Gwenllian JAMES are both buried at St
Bartholomew's Llanover, so there must have been a split in the family, Established
Church vs Dissenters.
Here's hoping
