True, SWB had its major building supply site on
Kingsway in the centre of Newport.
Next door was New Age Fireplaces, also owned by
Percy
I lived on Kingsway and helped out at the petrol
station they owned next to SWB.
Heater and Ron were in there frequently filling
up their company cars.
The Dock St site was where the main retail
showrooms were, with bathrooms etc.
My memories go back to 1961 when I left Newport
for Manchester, the main site of the SWB on
Kingsway is now the Newport Conference centre.
It is true that Percy and family did live on
Ridgeway and were comfortably off
