I have just realised but Joseph Powell is in West Lane Tredegar, when I looked at the page
it does look like Graver or Graven Common.

Hi Dave,
I'm sure they could if the query was in Hertfordshire, but it's in
Herefordshire, quite some distance away. :-)
Many thanks, Jon

Subject: [MON] Birthplace in 1871 Census
Hi listers,
Can anyone tell me what the birthplace is of Joseph Powell at the
following
reference in the 1871 census please:
RG10 Piece 5319 Folio 44 Page 30
For those who don?t already know, I?m completely blind. A friend who is a
genealogist said it looks like Graven Common, Herefordshire, but Googling
that doesn?t bring up anything useful at all.
Sincerest thanks,
Jon

Oops. So that's where my reply went to! The cat jumped onto the ipad and everything
vanished.
Jack, I found these baptisms on FMP: George son of Edward & Mary Tedder baptised
Bristol 11 May 1688; George son of George & Martha Tedder bpt 9 Jan 1739 (obv not your
Geo) Bristol; George s/o Geo & Jane Tedder 7 Feb 1602 London.None of the above bpt
give any other details about where the bpts took placeCouldn't find a marriage for
George and Martha in 1739.This was just a quick look but Tedder/Tudor/Tether might deserve
a further look.A look at the Gwent Archives catalogue for court records might give further
clues.Good luck. Luned in Blaenavon

I have been looking for this for Jon but I cannot find the record in the census. When I
enter rg10 piece 5319 folio 44 p 30 nothing comes up on ancestry. All the piece no's
for Herefordshire are more like in the 2000's numbers. If you could tell me when
Joseph Powell was born it would help me.

That is some of the clearest handwriting I have ever seen on a census record, and it does
truly look like Graven Common, but I have no idea where that is.

Thank you Edward,
Maybe my next step should be to ask the Herefordshire list if anyone on
there is aware of a place by that name?
Many thanks again,
Jon
