Hi listers,
Thanks to everyone who has helped in this matter.
I was the person who asked on the Gloucester list, but please let me clarify, William
Mogford is not my ancestor, I?m tracing his life as he was a station master in my home
town between 1863 and 1880.
He is with his parents and siblings in the 1841 census of Stoodleigh, where he is 13 yrs
old.
On his marriage to Maria PERRETT on 9 Dec 1848, he was a railway porter living at
Paddington. He was still a railway porter at Paddington when their first child John
William was born there on 1 Sept 1849.
He was next employed by the Monmouthshire Railway & Canal Company in 1850, and later
continued working on the railways when the GWR took over the Mon Rly & Canal Co.
In the 1851 census, William is lodging in Risca, Monmouthshire, and his occupation is
given as Railway Pollice.
In 1861 he is at Upper Llanvrechva near Pontypool, his occupation being given as Railway
Clerk.
He?s next found in Abertillery at the station master?s house, and in 1881 he is found at
the Basseleg station near Newport.
He is found at the Victoria Station near Ebbw Vale in Monmouthshire in 1891, and died at
that station on 23 Apr 1893 aged 65.
Thanks again to everyone for their helpful suggestions.
Best wishes to all,
Jon
