Hi John
Like you I'm a regular user of Old Maps, and only found out about the new
charges this afternoon.
You can't blame them for making a charge, I suppose, but £120 a year is
more than many Ancestry subscriptions etc!

Some of you will be familiar with the Old-Maps website [
www.old-maps.co.uk]
which offers images of large-scale Ordnance Survey maps of the UK dating
back to the mid to late 19th century.
I've used this website for many years, and a few days ago I noticed that an
extremely useful feature, removed from the site several years ago, has been
resurrected: namely, the ability to expand the image of your chosen map to
full-screen size, and to zoom into the image to examine details more
closely.
This facility used to be available without charge, but in its latest form it
is available only to registered users, on payment of a £9.99 monthly
subscription.
I'm pleased that the zoomable full-screen image is back, but disappointed
that a considerable payment is demanded for the privilege.
If you use the Old-Maps website frequently, you may feel the charge is
justified in order to obtain full-screen images of these wonderful old maps.
But if you only use the site occasionally, the charge is difficult to
justify.
