(forgot to send this to the list)
Hello Joanne,
I don't know if you have this information or not --
I did find Rachel MATTHEWS in 1851, widowed, in St. Mellons, so William must
have passed away between the two censuses. I note that the visitor in her
household gives her place of birth as "Mon. St. Mellons." I had first tried
searching for MATTHEWS in Monmouthshire, but then found St. Mellons is
listed under Glamorgan. I guess the districts overlap?
1851 Census, Glamorgan, St. Mellons
HO107/2455/18/29
Rachel MATTHEWS, Head, Widow, age 51, charwoman, b. Glamorgan, Caerphilly
Sarah LLEWELLYN, Visitor, unmarried, age 8, b. Mon. St. Mellons
Two of her (step)sons, Edward MATTHEWS (age 16) and John MATTHEWS (age 14)
are servants in the household of Ann MILES in St. Mellons. Edward's
occupation - "agricultural pursuits" and John's - "errand boy."
1851 Census, Glamorgan, St. Mellons

The MILES family and servants is rather large, so I didn't transcribe the
whole household. If you don't have access to
Ancestry.com censuses, let me
know and I'll send you a shared image of both the sons and stepmother.
