Hi Adrian
The Hundred of Usk Volume 3 Part 2, page 118 has the pedigree of the family of
"Kemeys of Panteg, Malpas etc"
Richard BALLARD of Monmouth, gent is shown as marrying Isabella LONG (daughter
of Robert LONG of Monmouth whose Will was proved 1694) and Blanche (whose Will
was proved 1696). (no date for the marriage)
Isabella's sister Mary (Will dated 17 July 1733, proved 6 Sept 1737) married
Roger KEMEYS of Panteg, gent (ob. 23 July 1728 aet. 69. M.I. Will dated 20
April 1723; proved 7 Feb. 1728/9)
Richard and Isabella are shown as having children but none are actually listed.
I noticed a couple of other entries:
The Hundred of Abergavenny, Vol. 1 Part 2b
p352 David BALARD - pedigree of Morgan of Llanwenarth shows Alson, dau. to David
Fychan ap David BALARD, esq, marrying Richard ap Meurig of Llanfihangel
Pont-y-moel
The Hundred of Trelech, Vol.2 Part 2
p142 pedigree of the families of Probert (Ynyr Gwent) and Morgan of Pant-glas
and the Argoed shows Jane, dau. to sir David BALLARD, knt marrying Jenkin ap
Howel
Cwmcarvan
p181 "on 5 September, 1829, George BALLARD surrendered to James RICHARDS
Cae'r-ywen, 4 acres, and Bwlch-y-gwynt, situate near the road from Monmouth to
Trelech and Graig-y-dorth"
p182 "Copyhold lands called Gworlod-yr-odyn (the lime kiln meadow), to which
James RICHARDS of Cwmcarvon, esq., had been admitted in 1826, were on 5
September, 1829, surrendered to George BALLARD of Shirehampton, co. Gloucester,
esq. In 1835, on the bankruptcy of the said George BALLARD, one of a company of
Calcutta merchants, John Ralph Norton Norton purchased the same..."
p182, with regard to some other property also has "In 1774 Pleasant BULLOCK,
widow, and Sybil PENRY sold to John GWYN, who mortgaged to John BALLARD of
Portbury, co. Somerset, surgeon, who was succeeded by his only brother and heir
George BALLARD, on whose bankruptcy in 1835 John Ralph Norton Norton of
Monmouth, attorney, became the owner..."
Much of the information in Bradney's pedigrees was based on those of Llyfr
Baglan, which Bradney had transcribed and the two earlier marriages are in
there:
p10 "The petigre of the Proberts of Pantglase"
Jenkin alias John ap howell ma. Jane, da. to David Balard, knight, had issue....
p67 "Llanwenarth" (note states is the pedigree of Morgan of Ty-mawr in
Llanwenarth)
Richerd ap myrig of llanvihangell y pont y moell ma. Alson, the da. of David
Vaghan ap david Balard, esq....
But Llyfr Baglan was written 1600-1607 so there's no mention of the Kemeys
family link.
Hope that helps
Best wishes
