I have had a look at the census images and thought I would add my two-pennyworth as to the
explanation of "Top and bottom of the Jinny". I believe that the
"Jinny" is a small steep indentation in the mountain, a small valley or
"gully". I am pretty sure my late father used to call part of our village
(Llanhilleth) by that same name. Maybe current residents of Crumlin could oblige with some
info?

Hi Jill,
The letter I owe you is coming soon... But in the mean time can you or any fellow
listers help me with this query
It's another Penmaen census query.
I have a copy of 2 1861 census pages for Crumlin in Penmaen district of Mynyddislwyn.
Now heres my problem.
We don't know where in Crumlin it is.
RG 9 4026 71 page 15 or 16 I think. I'm not good at reading the census numbers.
The family is as follows:
Benjamin REEVES M aged 46 Carpenter Warwickshire. His first name transcribed as Benjm.
Harriet REEVES Wife aged 38 " Wife Hampshire
David REEVES Son aged 10 Scholar Gloucester
Phebey Ann REEVES Daur aged 8 Scholar Gloucester
Benjamin REEVES Son aged 3 Scholar Crumlin
On the next page is:
Joseph REEVES Son aged 11m Crumlin
Benjamin REEVES was born in Nuneaton Warwickshire and his wife
Harriet REEVES nee WORT was born in Above Bar Southampron Hampshire.
I have finally found their Marriage Certificate. After years of searching
For them I finally spotted them getting married in Totness on July 28th 1845.
By BANNS. Both of Full age. Benjamin was an Excavator.
The only reason i finally got them was through Harriet WORT as Benjamin was
miss transcribed I think as Benjamin REVES not REEVES thats why he got missed.
They next turn up in Gloucester City with Son David REEVES aged 10m for memory.
Now the problem is this:
By looking up Joseph REEVES aged 11 m you will get the family.
We have tried to deciphre where in Crumlin they are.
Any guesses most welcome.
One possibility is it could be Railway houses some where in Crumlin.
Or even have an upper or lower as part of the wording.
All it states on the two pages my family are on is Crumlin so I tried looking
at pages either side to pin point an area but my dyslexic brain couldn't figure
it out.
Thanks for any help with deciphering this for me.
