Judiths post reminded me of an old valleys chestnut.
In the early 1900`s a brilliant Metallurgist from Crumlin was asked by his
employers to undertake a journey to China to solve a problem the Chinese
were having with metal fatigue. He was obliged to travel by train.
On asking at the station for a return to Peking he was told to buy a single
to Newport and make further enquiries there. At Newport he was requested to
take a single to Paddington
and ask again. Paddington sent him to Waterloo where he managed to get a
single to
Calais on the boat train. After many stops in France, Germany and Poland,he
arrived in
Moscow. Then ensued an epic journey on the Trans Siberian Express to
Vladivostok,
from where finally he was able to purchase a single ticket to Peking.
After sorting out the Chinese problem his thoughts turned with some
anxiety
to his passage home.
At Peking General station he asked with great trepidation for a single to
Crumlin.
The clerk consulted the schedules and enquired ,
" Sir.Do you requre a ticket to Crumlin Higher Level or Crumlin Lower Level
?"
