Hi Keith,
Thank you very much for the information.I'll follow up your suggestions
I have to say the response from Listers has been fantastic and has started
to resolve some of the problems I've had finding my g,g,g, grandmothers
family. Now I have Margaret and Hannah who was the only one he named, and
who I know were two of 4 sisters but I still don't know who their parents
were. My g,g, grandfather said that " one sister married a Mr Evans, a
Builder , another married a Mr Jenkyns, Head Master of a large school near
Methyr Tydvil (sic) a scholar and author. He wrote a work on the antiquities
of Wales, which caused considerable interest amongst scholars interested in
such a subject ."
He goes on to mention quite important family connections, including a number
of academics. His mother's father retired from business when he was about 40
( he was over 80 when Charles last saw him (about 1840) and made "exquisite
" inlaid furniture and boxes for a hobby. So he must have been fairly
wealthy
I've been trying for years to find the people and family he mentions in his
rather long letter written in 1888.
Regards.
Ray
