Yes, it was illegal till about 1920, I think. I looked into this as my
grandmother married her brother in law a couple of years after her 1st
husbands death. This was in about 1907 I think. ( I cant put my hand on my
papers at the moment) They lived in Crosskeys, but went off to Cardiff
Registry Office to get wed. There was always 'whispers' in the family that
something was wrong with the wedding.
