Do you mean that they are going to build these new houses over the top of the bodies!!!
I have only been researching my family in England for 6 months and just started in Wales.
I find it unbelieveable that the mighty dollar could lead to something so callous as to
develope over our ancestors.
Is this a common thing in the UK? So I would be wasting my time to save the money for a
trip over there to visit the cemeteries of my ancestors.
In my neck of the woods in Victoria, the local Lions Clubs and Historical Society go to
great lengths to preserve the graves of the pioneers.
One such grave, they knew there was a baby buried there but the register was missing, it
turned up a couple of years later at the old post office of a nearby town. When the Lions
Club found out the baby's details they got a brass plaque made and erected on the
grave.
This particular cemetery is only very small and was re-opened about 10 years ago because
one of the local residents wanted to be buried there. The Lions Club maintain the grounds,
have laid concrete strips for mounting plaques, built a wall for ashes.
My sister is also buried there, and mum & dad have bought their little nook in the
wall.
