I have just returned from 10 days in Salt Lake City, Utah, and the big
news is that, finally, the LDS and its Family History Library began last
week, on Wednesday, 20 September, its huge project of microfilming the
parish registers in Wales dating beyond the mid-1800s! BUT, the greatest
news is that the project is beginning in Gwent!!!
I don't know where the project is beginning.
I asked how long it would be before these films would be available to
researchers, and the best *guess* I could get was perhaps as long as a
year (processing film, cataloging, making copies of the original, etc.).
But, after all these years, what is one more year??? :-)) Just how late
these registers will be permitted to be microfilmed I do not know, i.e.,
the cut-off date, but anything up to the 20th century (and hopefully
more than a bit beyond) will be wonderful!!
You may now do the "happy dance."
