Dear Roger
Yes thanks - I had seen this and had disgarded it because Richard died in
1868 aged 84, and this date of birth would have meant he was 96 at his
death. I know this is not impossible, but I thought it unlikely. I had
hoped the couple might have had a younger son also named Richard. It is
difficult.
In 1851 Richard says he was born in Newport, but there is no baptism there.
The 1861 census for Newport (where he lived from at least 1811) is
incomplete and I cannot find him, and he had died by 1871, so I have no way
of checking his place of birth.
The other argument in favour of the info you found is that Richard had
children called John and Mary - but they aren't the most unusual names and
there were ten children.
It all takes some thinking about.
best wishes
Anne

There is a Richard Christopher christened in 1772 in Grosmont Mon. on
IGI.
His parents are John and Mary Christopher. Have you considered that the
age given in 1841 may be inaccurate. They quite often are, particularly
for
older people.
