Hi Judith
Just home from sunny Spain and the first message I see is about rainy Risca.
So good to be back!!
Cwmbyr farm is unfortunately long gone. There are still some foundations
there but it is completely overgrown. I can remember having tea in the
farmhouse when I was about 5 or 6. The high point, for me anyway, being a
mouse being chased by the cat.
I can only remember a Davies family living there. There is a small plaque in
memory of one of the family who died in the last few years, on a tree that
is close to the ruins. The tree is on a bit of a banking and there is a
hollow underneath which was apparently used as the dog's kennel.
I'll be walking my dog there this weekend so will check the name on the
plaque and let you know. I'll ask my mum if she recognises any of the other
names.
The location can be seen on
www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap then click Get
a Map. The reference is ST231919. The easiest way to reach is from
Greenmeadow Bridge which is on the Monmouthshire - Brecon canal.

Subject: [Mon] CWM BYR FARM - RISCA
Hello everyone,
I saw a message related to farms and it reminded me that a friend has asked
me to look into her background in the Risca area. She had family by the
name
of ROBERTS, DAVIES, JONES and possibly another surname involved as there
may have been a second marriage somewhere, and they lived at CWM BYR FARM,
near
Risca.
Sorry this is a bit vague but if anyone knows anything about those names
in
connection with the farm Cwm Byr which my friend tells me was (probably
still
is) up a steep lane in the direction of Twm Barlwm.
Thanks to anyone who can help, Judith
ps My own interests in the Risca area are: MORRIS / CORDEY / COLE / THOMAS
