Hello,
I have just located my ancestor in Kelly's Directory of Monmouthshire, 1901:
MYNYDDISLWYN. She is listed as: Matthews Mary (Mrs.), farmer, Tirhowell fechan
I'm trying to figure out what happened to Mary and to the farm after 1901. I
understand that in (roughly) the 1920s or 1930s a family by the name of Jones owned the
farm, but I would like to find out how long Mary had the farm or if any other family
members might have been involved with it.
Since I can't search the 1911 census yet, does anyone have access to any of the post
1901 Kelly's directories for the area? The name Matthews is sometimes spelled Mathews
and the family also went by the surname Rees as well. Also, I've seen the farm
spelled the following ways, but there may be other variations!
Tirhowell Fechan
Ty-Howell Fechan
Ty-Howell Vechan
Tir Hywel Fach
TY'R HYWEL FYCHAN
Thanks in advance!
Melanie Tucker
