There will be many attesting to the advantages of corresponding with list members, and I
would like to add my praises of such.
I now have a very dear friend in Ebbw Vale because she answered my query on the Wales
Message Board. As it turned out, we weren't researching the same Jones family;
however, through our correspondence I learned she lived in Ebbw Vale where my
g-grandmother was born, and she learned that I live in Pittsburgh where some of her
ancestors had immigrated. We have been able to help each other tremendously and through
it all we have become wonderful friends apart from the genealogy - trading pictures of
family, etc. etc. I wouldn't be anywhere near as far in my research if it wasn't
for her. She has been awesome in finding information! I, in turn, have been able to take
her several generations forward with the information I've been able to find. It's
great!

I too have had great good fortune simply because I did not limit my contact
with a list to fulfilling a lookup. I added a little local knowledge and the
person who wrote the request then responded and in the ps to her message
casually mentioned how she was connected to one of the names. This was a
name in one of my branches and after further swopping of information we now
suspect that we share a common ancestor seven generations back. This might
never have been discovered if we hadn't talked to one another as well as
just giving factual information from one source.
