After receiving everyone's replies to my queries, I found this thread on a genealogy
forum that was quite interesting.

I wonder if there isn't a website that lists the names of the towns and all the
different areas (U.D., civil parish, ecclesiastical parish, registration district, hamlet,
etc. etc.) the towns belonged to through the years. With all of the different
designations listed on the census and other records, I get really confused with where they
actually lived and how to find them!! I'm sure I'm not alone in this. Maybe
it's just because I'm from the US and not familiar with the UK organizational
system or because my ancestors lived in places that shared two counties, districts, etc.
It also appears to me that in the census they tended to list birthplace as the parish they
lived in instead of the actual town. Am I correct?
Thanks for listening to my lament. I needed to get that off of my chest.

that would be Trelyn Urban District. On some certificates you might see
U.S.D which stands for Urban sanitary District. and sometimes R.S.D. Rural
Sanitary District. I am not exactly sure of the reason for these "new"
districts but feel it must be something to do with local government
tightening its grip on the populace - I am sure someone else on this list
can tell us more.
