Hi List, I wonder if its possible for sks to check up on a marriage for me please?
All the information I have is that it allegedly took place in Tredegar on 8 Jul 1872
between ggranddad William SMITH and Mary (or could be Ellen) COLEMAN.
William's father was also William and he was from Pontypool, she was allegedly from
Brynmawr or Blaina, he would have been about 20 and she a lot younger, accordingly about
14, but I doubt very much it is stated that young!
On checking Freebmd, I found there are several William SMITHs married in a time period of
1870 to 1877, but none 'suitable', they could have been married before 1870 but I
believe Mary (Ellen) was born in the middle 1850s which would possibly be too young to
marry. I also believe she had a daughter Sarah Hannah or vice versa, born in early 1870s.
After 1877 they would have been in Australia, maybe too late to save family morals to
admit it then!
Many thanks, Mick McAllister
