Subject: [MON] Help Wanted - The Jones Family
G'day List
I am one of the many Jones descendants from the Eastern Valley. My great
grandfather Edwin Jones has proved to be a bit of a brick wall so I'm
asking for help. On the 1881 Census he is living in 52 Snatchwood Road,
Abersychan, a railway guard, aged 35, born Mon, Trevethin with his wife
Martha and their 3 children, the youngest of whom is my grandmother,
Martha whose birth certificate I have
I'm OK with that but where it gets a bit fuzzy is with the previous census
results. In the 1871 Census, I have the enumerator's copy on which an
Edwin Jones and his wife Martha are listed as Lodgers at Upper Tip? House.
Edwin is 26, Married, Engineer, born Mon, Gardiffaith with his wife
Martha, aged 26, no profession, whose birthplace is illegible on my copy.
The ages are about right, they have no children which is correct as Emma,
their first child would not be born until 1873. Does "engineer" cover
Railway guard or is it somebody else?
Currently I'm invesigating the two previous censuses, I think I've found
him on the 1851 but not yet on the 1861. Is there anyone on the list who's
looking at the same family. I'd like to get in touch off-list if there is
to clear up a few problems with his later life.
Regards
Ray Lewis
