Hello xrhiannonpricex(a)aol.com,
I am interested in obtaining an inquest report from 1885 how likely
would it be that these would be availabe? Where would I obtain them
It's unlikely that they would still be extant. Coroners were only
required to keep them for 15 years, after which time they were usually
destroyed. Exceptions were made for "important" cases, but then, a 75
year non-disclosure rule applies.
from & how much would they cost?
Try local or county record offices. Cost would probably vary
according to number of pages to be copied, etc. However, a far better
option would be to search local newspapers of the time, as they nearly
always carried reports of coroners' inquests. Sometimes, in quite
lurid detail.
