If this is actually Bilston rather than Bilson, see
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/STS/Bilston/index.html
It sounds as if the 'ladle' might indeed be for the transport of molten iron
rather than serving soup.

Subject: [MON] Occupation 'Ladle Dauber'?
I've just received a Marriage Record from GRO which lists the grooms Rank
or Profession as what appears to be "Ladle Dauber".I've tried some of the
on-line old occupation guides without luck. Would anyone have any idea
what this job this would be? The marriage was 8 June 1890 at St Mary's
Church, Bilson, Stafford Co. England.
(I've also posted the query on the Staffordshire list but thought perhaps
if it was a coal or metal industry related job, someone from Monmouthshire
area might be familiar with the term.)
