I have found on
ancestry.com the National Probate Calendar (Index
of Wills and Administrations).
It has entries for two brothers that I would like to see details
for:
--like what provisions were made for their minor children,
especially if mother was deceased as well
--how to follow to see if a female child married
--would there be an additional entry at time the minor children
married?
--what does "resworn" mean on this index? It is shown with a
different amount of "effects".
Alfred GWATKIN, was born 13 August 1865 to Thomas GWATKIN and Ann
SAUNDERS in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire and died 22 January 1911 in
Abergavenny. The administration of a limited will was 31 July 1911 to
his brother James Charles GWATKIN. Alfred's wife, Elizabeth Ann MEREDITH
was born in 1873 and died in 1901; their youngest daughters also died
young--Violet Augusta GWATKIN 1899-1901 and Edith GWATKIN 1900-1900. I
have death certificates for most of these individuals. The two surviving
children May GWATKIN, born 8 January 1896, and Frederick Pitt GWATKIN 4
January 1897-31 January 1962. Information has been found on the son
Frederick. But I would like to learn more about May. Both May and
Frederick were on the 1911 census with their uncle James Charles GWATKIN.
William Henry GWATKIN was born about 1863 to Thomas GWATKIN and
Ann SAUNDERS in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire and died 19 February 1913 in
Abergavenny, Monmouthshire. His will was probated 30 May 1913 to his
brother James Charles GWATKIN and Harry Vesey SAIES ( brother of
William's wife Ann Eliza SAIES who was still living). Some of William's
children were still minors.
All three GWATKIN brothers were painters, house decorators,
drapers, and/or builders on various census records. What effect might
this occupation have had on Alfred and William committing suicide? Both
Alfred and William had "effects" that were quite large--around 2000
pounds--when compared to other entries on the same page of the index.
