I am familar with the convention for Welsh men to use the first
letter of their Mother's birth name as a middle initial. I have several examples in my
ancestry, e.g., The Mother of William L. Morgan and Morgan L. Morgan was Anne (nee
LLewellyn) Morgan.
However, what is the convention for women?? I have the same ancestor, Anne (Llewellyn)
Morgan that appeared on Pittsburgh City Directories as Ann W. Morgan. Her Record of Death
identified her as Ann W. Morgan. Her newspaper obituary also identified her as Ann W.
Morgan. Her Death was listed in the Welsh newspaper, Tarian y Gweithiwr, as Mrs Anne W.
Morgans.
Her parents were identified as William and Anne Llewelyn-Rowlands.
Where does the W. come from ??
Can I assume Anne's mother's maiden name was Rowlands ??
Any help appreciated .......................
