Rossiter RISELEY, described as a canvasser of Newport, was summoned at
Merthyr on Tuesday for £435. arrears on a maintenance order to his wife 14 years
ago. RISELEY pleaded that he had been handicapped in his payments by periods of
unemployment and ill-health. With consent of his wife, Annie RISELEY, of
Troedyrihw, who was represented by Mr Thomas LEWIS,(Merthyr), the order was reduced
from £1 to 12s.6d. per week. Mrs RISELEY also agreed to accept payment off the
arrears at the rate of 1.shilling weekly. At this rate it would take 174
years to clear off the arrears.
The Bromton Manor, of Cardiff, sent out an SOS and the destroyer Sardonyx
found her with her bridge carried away. Captain Harry TURNER who was in command
of the Bromton Manor, had been swept overboard, when the bridge went down. It
was his first command, and his wife, whom he married two years ago, was also on
board.
