Henry BARRY,29, of Wyndham-place, Cardiff, was charged of breaking and
entering, his uncles house, and stealing umbrellas and walking sticks, the case was
dismissed at Cardiff on Wednesday. The magistrates,(Sir William SEAGER, Mr
Gilbert D. SHEPHERD, and Mrs E. Rose WILLIAMS), stated that no jury would convict
on that charge. The accused admitted the theft of the articles, but
complained of the attitude taken by his uncle and aunt towards his relations with their
daughter. Evidence was given by BARRY'S uncle Arthur Colston HUMPHRIES, of
Cumberland-street. Barry, giving evidence, admitted taking the umbrellas, but
said he did not intend doing anything with them. Barry was fined £2 and costs,
or a month on a charge of wilful damage.
The body of Thomas JENKINS, single aged 55, of Worcester-street, Brynmawr,
was found badly mutilated on the Great Western Railways Line, near Llantrisant
Station on Wednesday having apparently been run over by a train.
Mr Morgan HARRIS, conductor of the Dowlais Silver Band, of Danyparc, Merthyr,
died on Wednesday, aged 62, Mr HARRIS, who was a cornet player, had also been
associated with several orchestras at Merthyr. He was employed for many years
at the Dowlais Iron and Steel works as a fitter. He was a bachelor. Funeral
leaving house at 2.p.m. Saturday for Cefn.
Mr Richard (Dick) HEAP, trainer to Penarth Rugby Club, who collapsed while on
a visit with Penarth team to Leicester on Saturday, was buried in Penarth on
Wednesday. principal mourners Messrs. Anthony and Richard HEAP,(Sons), the
Misses Gwen and Eileen HEAP,(Daughters) and Mr Arthur HEAP,(Brother). The
bearers were all members of the Penarth team, R. BEECHY, R. BARREL, J. SHEPHERD, and
W. ROSSER.
Mrs Eliza HOPKINS, of 45, Wellfield-road, Roath Park, Cardiff was buried on
Wednesday in Cardiff Cemetery. The Rev. J.H. CAWTE, Curate of St. Martins,
Roath, officiated. Principal mourners, The Misses Beatrice and Florence
HOPKINS,(Daughters), Mr&Mrs CAFFELLE and Mrs ROBERTS,(Brother-in-law and Sisters),
Messrs. Cecil ROBERTS, M. LLOYD and Thomas BAYNHAM of Bristol, (Nephews), and Mr&
Mrs CHADBURN, of Whitchurch.
