Alan EDWARDS, Aberavon Rugby Wing Threequarter, has signed Professional forms
for Salford, the signing fee was not disclosed but is stated to be a
substantial one.
BOXING.- Monday Sept.16th. George MORGAN,(Newport), ex- featherweight
Champion of Wales obtained a brilliant points victory over Johnny TRUESDALE,
featherweight Champion of Ireland over 15 rounds, at Plasmarl, Swansea.- Other fights
Billy HUGHES,(Maesteg), retired 5th round to Seaman THOMAS, (Port Talbot), and
Lewie LEWIS, scored a brilliant victory over Griff WILLIAMS, (Cymmer).
Inquest on Richard Chillingworth Godfrey TAYLOR, of Sketty-ave, Swansea, who
was employed on the Reardon Smith Steamer, "Williamette Valley", when he fell
forty feet into the hold of the vessel at Royal Victoria Docks, London, he was
taken to the Royal Seamans' Hospital, Royal Albert Docks, were he died an
hour later. Peter CROFTS, of St. Fagan's-street, Cardiff, an able-seaman said he
saw TAYLOR disappear down the hatch. He was the son of Mr Charles G. Godfrey
TAYLOR.
At Ystrad on Monday, Isaac John DAVIES,28, unemployed of Crosswood-street,
Treorchy, was summoned for driving a motor-car while under the influence of
drink, he was fined £5., and also 17s. 10d, witness expenses, also fined £2 for
driving without due care and attention.
Albert Roy BURGESS,14, son of George E. BURGESS, a railwayman of 5,
Fairfax-road, Newport, was riding his bicycle down Coleridge-road, a steep incline and
into the main Newport-Chepstow Road, when he lost control and crashed into the
side of a bus driven by F. TAME, of Malpas. BURGESS received severe general
injuries and died later at the Royal Gwent Hospital.
A sting is suspected to have contributed to the death of Miss Elizabeth Dilys
ROBERTS,20, only daughter of Mr&Mrs T.W. ROBERTS, The Schoolhouse,
Abersychan. She was stung by some insect just below the lower lip a week ago, a swelling
developed around her mouth and was medically attended, but she died on
Sunday. (her funeral arrangements in Item 44).
Mr Archie BOWEN, son of the late Mr&Mrs BOWEN, Kenfig Hill, died at Cimla,
Neath on Monday. Mr BOWEN served through the Great War with the 9th Cheshires
and the 3rd South.Wales.Borderers. and was severly wounded.
